The world outside the Silo is made to seem like a barren and deathly place. This is why they would never allow her to birth a child. Allison says it herself when pleading with Holston to listen to her that the Pact only wants docile and obedient people, which she is not. This is one of the characteristics that is frowned upon by the Pact because it demonstrates a capability for resistance and rebellion. For example, early in the first episode, "Freedom Day," Allison is told by her superior that she posted something that broke their guidelines and did so without his approval. Allison is intelligent, inquisitive, direct, and at times insubordinate. Holston is confused by her emotional outburst and seemingly delusional convictions, shocked that Allison went inside her own body to find the birth control equipment she was told had been removed.Īllison is likely correct that "they," meaning the ambiguous yet authoritative Pact, do not wish for her to have children because of her personality type. Allison later discovers that she never had her birth control taken out and that "they" don't want people like her to have children. However, a year passes, and Allison receives the same result: no baby. Allison believes she is getting her birth control taken out and that a year of her and Holston's trying should be enough time to bear a child. RELATED: Silo's Cast: Dune Star Rebecca Ferguson Leads Apple's Sci-Fi ShowĪllison and Holston were attempting for their third pre-approved time to have a baby together. The biggest revelation by the end of episode 2, "Holston's Pick," is that the Silo might not be the sanctuary that its people believe it is. However, by the end of the first two episodes of Silo, some of its initial mysteries are given direction, while many questions still need answers. Early reviews of Silo draw comparisons to other popular dystopian narratives and, in some ways, reimagines The Matrix's best storytelling trick. It stars Rebecca Ferguson of recent Dune fame and David Oyelowo, Rashida Jones, Tim Robbins, Will Patton, and Common. Silo was created by Graham Yost, whose other writing credits include Band of Brothers, the FX series Justified, and the Keanu Reeves thriller Speed. A humble, good-hearted Sheriff decides to leave the Silo, which can be done by anyone who announces their desire to leave, to track down his wife, who had left after discovering some of the Silo's deepest secrets. The Silo, as its people refer to it, is the only place where it is safe from humans to exist following a rebellious uprising that wiped clean every book and hard drive created before the war. The story takes place in a seemingly civilized, massive underground community. The new sci-fi dystopian drama series Silo on Apple TV+ had several mysteries in its first two episodes.
